Chiropractic

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is an approach to health care that uses spinal manipulation to relieve pain and chiropractic treatments usually involve spinal manipulation (spinal adjustment). This treatment can be performed by the hands of the chiropractor or through the use of a special device. A chiropractic adjustment involves putting controlled pressure put on a joint for such outcomes as increasing movement in the joint and relaxation of the muscles surrounding it.

What does chiropractic treatment at Burton Health and Wellness involve?

In addition to chiropractic adjustment, hot/cold packs and/or electrical stimulation may also be used for such things as muscle relaxation or the treatment of muscle spasms, etc. Other types of treatment may include strength and stretching exercises or soft tissue/movement based techniques of massage.
An x-ray may be required before a treatment is performed.

How does chiropractic treatment work?

Chiropractic manipulation is used to restore joint mobility. This mobility may be restricted by injury to tissues caused by a traumatic event, such as falling; or repetitive stress, such as sitting without proper back support. Additional treatments such as soft tissue/movement based massage techniques and strength training exercises can be used alone or in conjunction with chiropractic manipulation to relieve pain and restore mobility. Chiropractic is used primarily as an alternative treatment for pain relief for muscles, bones, joints and connective tissue, such as cartilage, tendons and ligaments.
